How Healing Has Changed for Me Over the Years

Growing up, I had no idea my nervous system was struggling. I assumed everyone experienced stomach aches after eating certain foods. My menstrual cycles were always heavy, but I figured that was just normal. My anxiety was palpable, but I never questioned why. I carried more weight than many of my friends and believed it was simply the way my body was.

As I entered my twenties, I began experiencing more symptoms that I could no longer ignore. I decided to see an Eastern medicine doctor in hopes of improving my health and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, which finally gave me some answers. I started eating healthier, exercising regularly, and making changes to support my body. While I noticed improvements, I still felt like something was missing.

Over the years, I found myself caught in a cycle. A health issue would arise, usually involving my digestion, and I would do what I knew to do—I would change my diet, remove foods, add supplements, and work hard to get myself feeling better. And for a while, it would work. But eventually, the symptoms would return, and I would find myself searching for answers all over again.

By the time I entered my forties, I had reached a turning point. I was exhausted from constantly trying to "fix" myself and felt like I was stuck in an endless cycle of searching for the next answer.

That's when my understanding of healing began to change.

I realized that while nutrition and supplements were incredibly valuable, they weren't the entire picture. The healing I had been missing was learning how to regulate my nervous system, create a sense of safety within my body, and intentionally cultivate joy.

As I began slowing down, regulating my nervous system, and making space for more joy in my life, something shifted. Piece by piece, I felt myself becoming healthier—not because I had found one magic solution, but because I was finally supporting my body in a more complete way.

Today, I think of healing like a tree.

The roots are the foundation: whole, nourishing foods, hydration, and the nutrients that support your body.

The trunk is your nervous system. It provides stability and resilience, creating an environment where your body feels safe enough to heal.

The branches represent joy—the relationships, hobbies, laughter, creativity, purpose, and moments of peace that remind your body it is safe and alive.

For me, healing is no longer about chasing the next supplement or eliminating another food. It's about tending to the entire tree. When the roots are nourished, the trunk is strong, and the branches continue to grow, healing has a place to flourish.

If any part of this story resonates with you, please know you are not alone.

I know how overwhelming it can feel to navigate health challenges while wondering if you're missing another piece of the puzzle. After years of trial and error, I've found an approach that has helped me support my body in a more balanced, compassionate way.

That journey is what inspired me to become a holistic health coach. My hope is to walk alongside other women so that healing feels less lonely, less overwhelming, and more empowering.
