Healing Isn’t Linear: What No One Tells You About the Process
When we commit to healing ourselves, we often expect things to steadily improve over time. And while progress does happen, the process isn’t always linear. What isn’t talked about often enough is the process itself, and the mindset required to move through it.
Because healing isn’t linear
I’ve experienced this firsthand—feeling better, stronger, and more like myself… only to be knocked down again by a recurring issue. It can feel discouraging in the moment. But each time, I’ve come back stronger, more aware, and with a deeper understanding of how to support and heal my body.
And that, in itself, is growth.
Whenever I begin to feel symptoms of discomfort, which is often digestive for me, the first thing I do is pause and check in with myself mentally and emotionally.
What am I feeling? Have I been consuming too much negative energy—through the news, social media, or my environment? Have I been disconnecting from the things that bring me joy?
I’ve learned that I am far more susceptible to physical symptoms when I’m emotionally depleted. Our emotional and physical health are deeply intertwined, whether we acknowledge it or not.
From there, I turn my attention to how I’ve been nourishing my body.
If things have felt off, I simplify. I come back to the basics, which include whole foods, balanced meals, replacing coffee with tea, less processed foods, and eliminating refined sugar. I incorporate more stillness through meditation, limit my phone time, and step away from the constant pull of scrolling and reach for a book instead. I ground myself in gratitude and make note of a few things each day that I truly appreciate.
And almost immediately, I begin to feel a shift.
Not just physically—but mentally and emotionally as well.
There is something incredibly powerful about simply knowing that you are taking care of yourself. It builds trust within your mind-body connection. It creates confidence. It reminds you that you can return to a place of balance—because you’ve done it before.
There have been times when I’ve wished for a quick fix—a permanent solution that would resolve every health struggle for good. But the truth is, if everything were instantly resolved, we might miss the deeper lessons.
Maybe healing is here to teach us patience. Maybe it’s here to bring us back into our bodies when we’ve become disconnected. Maybe it’s asking us to listen more closely—to ourselves, to our needs, to what we’ve been ignoring.
Whatever the reason, our bodies are always communicating with us.
And it is our job to listen.
To be gentle. To be present. To nourish ourselves back into alignment—again and again.
Because healing isn’t about perfection. It’s about returning to yourself, every time you drift away.
Wishing you love and light on your healing journey,
